This day has been handed to us to shape as we choose. However, this blessing is often overlooked because we tend to focus on the two days in every week that we should not worry about. Two days that dilute our experience of today with an injection of anxiety and fear.
One of these days is yesterday, with all its mistakes and stresses, its victories and losses, its aches and pains. Yesterday has come and passed. There is not a thing you can do to bring back yesterday. We cannot undo anything that happened. We cannot un-say a single word we said. Yesterday is gone.
The other day we should not worry about yet still remains an anxiety and fear-inducing day is tomorrow, with its possible issues, its burdens, its dreams and nightmares. Tomorrow is a day we have yet to touch, it’s beyond our control. Tomorrow will greet us with no rules, no resentments, and no promises. Tomorrow will be a day of limitless potential for change, growth, and action, but, until it comes we have no control of tomorrow because we have yet to see it.
This leaves only one day. Our most vital blessing: TODAY!
I’m not saying it’s wrong to plan for the future. I’m warning not to make today a victim of those plans.
It’s good planning to save for your child’s education but don’t forget to enjoy your child today.
Enjoy today. It’s what you hold in your senses now. It’s what we, as humans, are made to handle. We can all fight the battles of just one day. It is when we add the burdens of two uncontrollable days, yesterday and tomorrow, that we get overwhelmed.
Take a moment for an internal observation of your stresses. So often, it is not the issues of today that crumble your peace of mind. It is more often the ghost of what happened yesterday and the fear and insecurity of what tomorrow may bring.
Do not allow your spirit to be softened, or your happiness to be limited, by a day you cannot have back and a day that does not yet exist.
Forget yesterday – it has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow – you haven’t even met.
Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift, today.
Enjoy it. Live it to the fullest.
Today is a new day!
